Subject: Help Us Support Melanie “Kehau” King in Her Fight Against Leukemia
Aloha Family, Friends, and Community,
We are reaching out with deep urgency and heartfelt aloha. Our Tita, Melanie Kehau King —known affectionately as “Mel” by her ‘ohana and “Kehau” to friends and the community—has recently been diagnosed with NPM1-Mutated Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), an aggressive and life-threatening blood cancer.
Kehau, who recently married the love of her life, Dino, is a proud mother of 6, grandmother of 5, a wife, daughter, sister, aunty, cousin, teammate, youth paddling coach, entrepreneur, and a deeply rooted member of our community. Her life has always been about giving—lifting others, coaching youth paddling, helping friends and family, and building her businesses from the ground up with determination and humility. Even while in pain, Kehau has never asked for help. She never complains. She just shows up.
Now, she needs to stop and focus on herself. She needs to malama herself—to heal. And that means we, her family and friends, must step up and surround her with the love, support, and resources she deserves. She’s a fighter and she is ready to take this head on!
We’ve launched a fundraiser campaign to help offset the high cost of medical care that will soon force her to go out of state to seek specific treatment for this type of leukemia that she has which cannot be treated in Hawaii….and to also assist with personal needs that Kehau has always managed on her own. Every donation—no matter the size—makes a real difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing her story and lifting her in your prayers.
This is our time to give back to someone who has spent her life caring for and giving to others. Please kokua and help us support our beautiful Tita, Kehau.
Me ka ha’a ha’a,
‘Ohana Melanie “Kehau” King
