I am a lifelong friend of Erica’s and she needs our help!
As many of you know, Erica lost the love of her life in December of 2024. The loss of her husband, Jason, was sudden, unexpected, and totally devastating. After initially learning of Erica’s loss, I offered to set up a fundraiser for her. She declined the offer at that time because she thought she would get by with Jason’s life insurance and pension.
A lot has happened since December 2024. Erica’s monthly bills now fall solely on her. Not only did she lose Jason’s income, but she lost the benefit of his job paying for her health insurance and has the added expense of costly COBRA insurance. Her own income has been significantly reduced. Her grief has been overwhelming. There are some days that are better and she is able to get to work, but it’s not on a consistent and regular basis. She finds some days that she doesn’t have the mental capacity to drag herself to work and teach our youth.
As any widow would, Erica thought she could count on Jason’s life insurance and pension. She would use them to help pay for his funeral service and to just give her a small cushion in her life. Unfortunately, adding insult to injury, Erica has learned that she will not be receiving any funds from either a life insurance policy or pension.
Erica no longer feels her home is in the house she shared with Jason. She no longer feels at home in North Carolina. Erica faces a move back to Austin, TX where she will try to put some pieces of her life back in order and learn to live a life without her soulmate.
Erica needs our help. She needs help with costs already incurred since Jason’s death, help with costs of her upcoming move, help tying over until she’s able to obtain work in Austin and then get back out on her own and on her feet.
Please consider donating. Anything helps.
