Hello, my name is Jonathan. I am trying to cover my mom Bella Steele’s final expenses and help us cover some of the bills to keep operating through this time.
Sadly, my mom went to the hospital Sunday. She was speaking, just breathing heavily, and I made the call to take her to the hospital. They said they found a pin in her stomach and to sedate her. I now foolishly said yes, and she was completely unresponsive only for them to give up and say it was actually the pneumonia in her chest and that she was very sick. I spent all night with her as her heart rate improved, only to wake up with maybe 40 minutes until she would stop breathing.
I am extremely close to my mom; she means the world to me. She would give whatever she could and listened to anyone, accepted me when I came out of the closet, and tried her best to undo the deep damage my dad had done.
My mom would share stories and tried to make my coworker and his daughter welcome in her home, in his five-year-old’s words, becoming a second mom and tried to finish her dress day and night before this traffic event.
Now we’re trying to afford to survive. As we get programs set up and everything, we are struggling hard as the VA denied her dad’s pension for being too rich ($1500 a month in social security which always went to our bills). We’re trying desperately to afford my mom to be cremated and cared for more than my father was.
She didn’t have to handle us, she didn’t have to deal with me, but she never gave up and saved my life and others. I wish I had been the one gone. It’s hard to grieve.
But we’re asking for help so we can save the home she loved and especially ensure she can be put to rest the way my mother deserved to be.
