Support Andrew’s Recovery After Life-Threatening Brain Hemorrhages
I’m organizing this fundraiser on behalf of Katie, Andrew, and their children.
On February 28, Andrew suffered a sudden and life-threatening medical emergency: a subarachnoid aneurysm burst, causing a significant brain bleed. Thanks to a swift 911 call and a fast-responding ambulance crew, Andrew was quickly taken to the hospital. There, doctors rapidly identified the problem and placed coils to stop the bleeding.
In a series of events that can only be described as miraculous, Andrew began talking within 24 hours and walking within 48. After two intense weeks in the ICU and a short time in general care, he returned home to his family. With each day, he showed signs of healing—working from home, spending time with his kids, and sleeping through the night. We were witnessing answered prayers.
But on April 30, a routine follow-up CT scan revealed a subdural hematoma, with a 5mm shift in the brain’s midline. Andrew was admitted again for further testing and observation. Though the medical team believed the blood to be old, something didn’t feel right. In the following weeks, small changes—missed family events, confusion, fatigue—began to add up.
Then on May 22, Andrew was rushed to the emergency room again as his cognitive function suddenly declined. He was intubated and taken into emergency surgery. What began as a planned burr-hole procedure quickly escalated into a full craniotomy to evacuate one of the most severe subdural bleeds the neurosurgical team had ever seen in a patient who was not already in a coma. His brain had shifted over 2 centimeters.
Today, Andrew remains intubated, with part of his skull removed to manage swelling. He has a feeding tube and faces a long and uncertain recovery.
Why We Need Your Help
Katie and the kids are holding on to hope, faith, and one another. But the journey has brought overwhelming emotional, physical, and financial strain. Between time off work, medical expenses, travel, and daily household needs, the burden is great.
If you feel led to help, your donation—no matter the amount—will support Andrew’s continued care and help ease the stress on his family.
Andrew’s family is deeply grateful for the incredible care teams who have fought for Andrew’s life at every turn. They are also full of thanks and praise to God—for answered prayers, for healing already seen, and for sustaining strength still to come.
Andrew is currently receiving care at Regions Hospital, where he is closely monitored by a dedicated team.
Please consider giving, sharing this campaign, and keeping Andrew and his family in your prayers.
With heartfelt thanks and God’s peace,
Amanda Swanson
