Hi, my name is Shelby Schoenborn, and I am Peter Van Voris’ daughter. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be reaching out for support to cover my father’s final expenses—but here we are.
The past decade of my father’s life was incredibly difficult. About five years ago, after his divorce, things took a significant turn for the worse. His struggles deepened, and my brother, Paul, and I stepped in as best we could—covering bills, buying groceries, and trying to help him find stability.
Tragically, my father was the victim of a devastating financial scam. Despite our best efforts to intervene, he continued to send money to these scammers until January 2025.
In the last five years, my brother and I gave everything we could—financially and emotionally—to keep him afloat. I personally covered over $20,000 in expenses, and my brother contributed just as much, if not more. But now, as we face funeral costs, memorial expenses in Ohio, legal fees, and outstanding bills totaling $5,000, we simply cannot do it alone. There is nothing left in the estate at this point, everything we pay to cover expenses is out of pocket.
We are asking for your help—not just to close this difficult chapter, but to honor our father’s life with the dignity and remembrance he deserves. Any contributions beyond our goal will go to his two beloved granddaughters, ensuring a small piece of his legacy carries forward.
This has been an incredibly painful journey, and sharing these details is not easy. But the weight of it all has been too great for my brother and me to bear alone.
