With deep sadness and love, we remember Bernice Perez—a truly extraordinary woman whose presence brightened every room and whose spirit lifted everyone around her. Bernice was more than a devoted mother, a loving wife, and a caring daughter; she was the heart of her family and a beacon of strength, compassion, and joy.
Bernice was an instrumental part of the Rush family for over two decades. She was integral in the founding of Hospital Medicine at Rush and later, in the growth of the Department of Internal Medicine. Most recently, Bernice worked in the Medical Staff Office, continuing to touch so many lives throughout the institution.
Bernice had a gift for making people laugh with her candor and wit. So many of our favorite memories of her are filled with laughter—sharing jokes, trading stories, and simply enjoying her quick wit and infectious sense of humor. She had a way of bringing light into even the darkest days, reminding us all not to take life too seriously and to find joy where we can.
As a caregiver to her mother, a constant support to her husband and 7-year-old son, and a friend you could always count on, Bernice gave selflessly and loved fiercely. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and unwavering love.
This fundraiser has been created to support Bernice’s family as they navigate this heartbreaking time and to help honor the incredible life she lived. Your contributions are deeply appreciated.
