Nomi Nwaigwe was a beloved sister, aunt, mother to all kinds of children, and pillar of the LGBT community in Chicago. There is a profound emptiness left by her sudden and unexpected passing. She leaves behind a legacy of love and advocacy. She worked tirelessly to ensure gay and trans youth in Chicago had the safety and care they needed. Nomi also worked for the Illinois Department of Child and Family Services for and Cornerstone Community Outreach for decades. Her humanitarian spirit and endless light drew all those who met her into her orbit. Nomi was warm, charismatic, funny, and generous. She will be greatly missed.
Due to Nomi’s sudden passing, her family is left to pick up the pieces, plan her end of life services, and deal with their grief. Nomi’s nephew John is tasked with the organization of her estate and preparation of arrangements. Donations will be used to help him lay her to rest and honor her memory.
