I am creating this fundraiser for my uncle, David Desrosiers, and our family to honor my grandma, Kathleen “Kathy” Desrosiers. My grandma suffered a stroke in January and then another in July. After her last stroke in July, it caused a brain bleed which led to her deciding she wanted to be put on hospice. She passed away last Thursday with my uncle holding her hand. This loss has been heartbreaking for my whole family, especially for my uncle, who has been her caregiver for so many years and stood by her side through so much of her care and recovery. My grandma was a loving woman who cared deeply about everyone around her, especially her family, and her memory means so much to all who knew her.
My family has already carried so much grief. Three years ago, my little sister passed away from a brain tumor, DIPG, at just 6 years old. Then my dad, who was also my grandma’s son, passed away 19 months later, which was another devastating loss for our family. My grandma’s passing has added even more grief on top of what we already carried. After my grandma’s first stroke, my uncle took significant time away from work so he could care for his mother and help manage everything that came with her medical needs. Between hospital stays, therapy, new treatments, and finding new homing for her, the resources became limited. About a month before my grandma passed away, she also lost her life insurance.
This fundraiser will help my uncle pay for my grandma’s funeral service, cremation, and burial, so she can be remembered with the dignity, love, and respect she deserves. Any support for my uncle and my family would mean so much during this incredibly difficult time.
