For my mom
Today, 9/2, our family lost my mom after a sudden and heartbreaking decline. She had been fighting acute kidney failure, and we truly believed we would have many more good years with her. Just two weeks ago, she became sick and went to the hospital. One day she was fine, and the next she was confused and battling a systemic infection. Her blood pressure was dangerously low, and her heart rate was dangerously high. The hospital was able to stabilize her and sent her home, but only two days later her blood sugar dropped to 40 and she became incoherent. She was rushed back to the ER, where scans and tests showed that her organs were shutting down, the infection had returned, and her body was no longer getting the blood flow it needed.
Everything happened so fast. After the doctor called to recommend palliative care, another call came just minutes later during a code blue. Our family rushed to the hospital, gathered together, and was given the chance to say goodbye. Now, while grieving this unimaginable loss, the family is asking for help with cremation expenses so my mom can be sent off peacefully and with dignity.
