My name is Jacorey Garrett, and I never imagined I would have to ask for help like this. Four years ago, I lost my mother, and my sister, BriAsia, was the only immediate family I had left. Through everything life brought us, we always had each other. I am only 20 years old, and BriAsia was just 24. Now I am facing the heartbreaking reality of losing my sister too, and I am trying to find a way to lay her to rest while carrying a grief that feels impossible to put into words.
BriAsia suffered from a rare autoimmune disease called scleroderma, a painful illness that causes the skin to harden and can eventually affect the body’s organs. She fought so hard for as long as she could. Before her condition became too severe, she worked for West Tennessee Healthcare, and they did everything they could to keep her employed. Eventually, though, her illness made it impossible for her to keep working. While we were trying to transition her insurance to private pay, the process was postponed because of a miscommunication, and now we are left with uncertainty about what will be covered.
I am asking for support to help cover BriAsia’s funeral expenses, outstanding bills, and the many costs that come with losing someone you love. More than anything, I want to honor my sister and give her the rest she deserves. I never thought I would be in this position, but I truly need the help of friends, family, and my community right now. Any donation, prayer, or act of support would mean so much to me as I try to get through this painful time.
