My mom, Jeanette, was dealt a difficult hand from the very beginning, but she spent her entire life fighting through it.
She was born with her heart on the opposite side of her body with a hole in it. From a young age, she endured surgeries, complications, hospital stays, and challenges that most people will never have to experience. Again and again, she fought through them. She was incredibly strong, and despite everything life put her through, she remained one of the kindest and most loving people you could ever meet.
She hasn’t even reached 60 years old yet, and it feels incredibly unfair that after fighting her entire life, this is where her story is ending.
Three weeks ago, my mom went to the hospital for what was supposed to be a colonoscopy. I never could have imagined that it would lead us here.
During her hospitalization, her condition suddenly and severely declined. Her oxygen dropped as low as 30%, and from there, everything began to spiral. Doctors struggled to understand why so many things were going wrong at once. Eventually, her organs began shutting down, and I was faced with the heartbreaking realization that after a lifetime of fighting, her body simply couldn’t fight anymore.
I am now sitting beside my mom in the ICU as she reaches the end of her life.
There are no words that can prepare you for saying goodbye to your mom, especially when just weeks ago you never imagined you would have to.
Jeanette has spent her life being loved by so many people because of the person she is. She is incredibly kind, caring, and someone whose heart has always been bigger than all of the medical problems she was born with. She fought hard her entire life, and I want to make sure that when she is finally able to rest, I can honor that life properly.
I am asking for help with her funeral and memorial expenses so I can give my mom the celebration of life she deserves and give everyone who loves her the chance to come together, remember her, and say goodbye.
Anything you are able to give will help during a time I never expected to be facing. If you aren’t able to donate, sharing this fundraiser would mean just as much to me.
Thank you for loving Jeanette, thinking of her, and helping me give my mom the peaceful and beautiful goodbye she deserves.
I love you, Mom. You fought harder than anyone ever should have had to. It’s okay to rest now.
