This is a story about my son Jimmy (nicknamed Ping) who is a son, a brother, an uncle, a great-uncle, a friend, and a neighbor.
It was just 57 days ago on January 27, 2025, when after feeling nauseous and unable to keep food down, he drove himself to the hospital. Within just a few days (after many tests), he and his family were told that he had stage 4 esophageal cancer that had metastasized to his liver, bile ducts, and other surrounding organs and is inoperable.
In these recent eight weeks, he has struggled with constant pain, sleepless nights, drainage from the feeding tube, and two stomach drains. His nutrients come now from the feeding tube. He is hungry and weak and not able to walk. He weighs half his normal body weight.
He entered hospice on Friday.
At his last job of more than ten years, they did not offer any benefits, and he has no life insurance.
Our family is asking humbly for economic help to give him a proper memorial service and burial. When he was younger, he was in a fire so cremation is not a comfortable choice for him.
As we watch him sit in his recliner each day, not able to move without assistance, a once muscular, hard-working man is in a mental fog, trying to process all that has been presented, and all that he is now living.
