Celebrate Angel’s Life, Aid His Family

Main fundraiser photo
Hi everyone,

My name is Joceline and I am one of the many lives Angel touched during his time here with us.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Angel Hernandez, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left us far too soon at the age of 27. Angel was born on November 17, 1997, in Chicago, Illinois, the first of three children to Sylvia Medina, stepson to Miguel Medina, loving older brother to Michael Medina and Cecilia Medina, and uncle to Samuel and Amelia Medina.

Angel spent his childhood in Chicago, where his family fondly remembers his first bicycle. Though it still had training wheels, his tiny license plate read “Too Fast For You”—a fitting preview of his love for adventure. As a teenager, Angel made Houston, Texas, his home, where he built his adult life and formed lasting friendships. Whether in Chicago or Houston, Angel’s infectious sense of humor, kindness, and charm left a mark on everyone he met. He had a special way of making people laugh with his silliness, and his presence made others feel seen, heard, and valued. His warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Jersey Village High School, Angel followed his passion for mechanics and became a skilled diesel mechanic. He was known for his talent and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand without expecting anything in return—except the gift of friendship. Angel found true joy at his favorite hangout (if you know, you know), where everyone knew his name. It was there that he shared countless laughs, often with his memorable quotes and humorous wisdom. One of his favorites was, “A wise man once said, what’s the point of having money if you can’t spend it?” This quote reflects Angel’s philosophy on life: enjoy every day to the fullest.

At his core, Angel was a jokester. He loved spending time with his loved ones—watching movies with his family, gaming with his friends (where his gaming names particularly showed his love for Metal Gear Solid and Smite). He enjoyed a house full of laughter, and if his favorite soccer team, Club America , was playing, it was the perfect time to gather friends and cheer on his team. He also loved anime, especially the characters from Solo Leveling. In his last days, he attended the Houston Rodeo, proudly wearing his cowboy boots and a new red shirt (telling everyone of his latest splurge). When he got home, he excitedly talked about all his favorite parts, especially the “Mutton Bustin’. Though he was born in Chicago, he truly embraced his life as a Texan, loving everything about Texas.

Angel was his mom’s number one fan, cheering for her during karaoke and supporting her just as passionately during her battle with cancer. Many knew Angel cherished his wavy light brown hair, but when his mom lost hers, he didn’t hesitate to shave his head in solidarity. That was the kind of person he was—when he couldn’t find the right words to show support, he did it with actions.

He cherished the simple moments, often found on warm summer days grilling, gathering, and sharing stories. His laughter and lighthearted spirit will forever live in our hearts.

Angel is preceded in death by his beloved grandfather, Alejandro Lopez Sr., and his uncle, Alejandro Lopez Jr. Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that Angel’s legacy of love, friendship, and humor will live on in all the lives he touched.

Fun Fact: Angel’s name was inspired by a song his mom sang to him while he was still in the womb. He loved it when she sang it to him in private, where he would be transported to a place of profound love.

During this time of grief, we are reaching out to our friends, community, and anyone who would like to donate to help Angel’s family during this difficult time.
