In Loving Memory of Hilda
Dear friends and family,
I am heartbroken to share the tragic passing of our beloved Hilda A. Harper-Vassell. This tragic event unfolded over the last week, and I would like to provide you with more details to honor her memory and to seek your support during this difficult time.
Beginning the previous Tuesday, Hilda experienced swelling in her left leg and foot. Although some swelling subsided by Friday evening, she had been keeping her legs elevated to alleviate her discomfort. That fateful evening, at approximately 7:05 PM, Hilda and her husband decided it was best to go to urgent care.
Within minutes, as they made their way out of the apartment, Hilda suffered a massive blood clot that originated in her abdomen and leg. This clot traveled to her lungs, blocking her blood flow and causing her heart to work excessively until it finally stopped. Tragically, she collapsed in the hallway around 7:08 PM.
Paramedics arrived a short time later, at approximately 7:18 PM, and transported her to Dignity Northridge Hospital. Despite their valiant efforts in performing CPR multiple times, Hilda’s condition remained critical. Upon arrival at the hospital around 8:10 PM, medical staff administered blood pressure medication and blood thinners to dissolve the clots. Unfortunately, these interventions led to severe complications, resulting in brain bleeding and intense pressure on her brain. By Saturday afternoon, Hilda was declared brain dead.
Her sister was by her side on Sunday, and she desperately clung to hope and faith as friends and family around the world prayed for her healing. However, as days passed, it became clear that both Hilda and the Lord desired her to be at home in Heaven. By Tuesday midday, doctors officially confirmed the tragic news of her brain death, which meant they had to prepare to say their goodbyes within the mandated 24-hour period before life support would be removed.
On Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by loved ones and filled with love and prayer, everyone gathered to honor Hilda as she departed from this world at 2:40 PM PT, June 4th, 2025, into eternal rest with Jesus.
We are now faced with the unexpected costs of arranging her funeral and medical expenses. As we navigate this overwhelming loss, I humbly ask for your support through this fundraiser campaign to help cover the expenses.
Thank you for your love, prayers, and support during this heartbreaking time for Hilda’s family, friends, and loved ones. Your generosity means more than words can express.
With gratitude and love,
Kristine Choi
